At the launch of the trailer for his eagerly awaited film Akaal, Gippy Grewal, who is both the director and lead actor, opened up about his journey and the passion that fueled this project. This film is a major milestone for him, as it uniquely combines Hindi and Punjabi elements for the first time in his career.

During the event in Mumbai, Gippy reminisced about the years of effort and commitment that went into making Akaal a reality. He shared the common dream that every filmmaker has when embarking on a new project: "When we create a film, everyone has a vision in their mind of what they want to achieve. This film represents a significant dream for me. It has taken years to come together. In fact, when I first considered directing, my initial idea was to create this film back in 2016. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the budget at that time. I started with a smaller project to gain some experience. That’s when I figured out if I could actually pull it off. We went on to make Ardaas and established our production company, Humble Motion Pictures. Since then, we’ve been producing films, and now we’ve finally brought this one to life."

Gippy shared insights about the character Akaal, which is inspired by a fictional persona from the era following Maharaja Ranjit Singh's rule in Punjab. He elaborated on how the film delves into the happenings in Punjab around 1840, with Akaal Singh's character reflecting the socio-political climate of that time: "Akaal is a fictional character set in the post-Maharaja Ranjit Singh era, specifically in 1840. We’ve crafted this character based on the real events that unfolded in Punjab during that period. While Akaal is not a real person, he draws inspiration from the historical context of the time."

The film Akaal is set to be an exciting addition to both the Hindi and Punjabi film scenes, merging history with fiction in a captivating story. It will be released in theaters on April 10, 2025.
