Actor Genelia Deshmukh marked her impressive return to the screen with her debut Marathi film, Ved, in which she starred alongside her husband, Riteish Deshmukh. The film achieved remarkable success, becoming the second-highest-grossing Marathi film following Sairat. During a recent panel discussion on women's empowerment at Elle Impact, the actress shared her experiences of facing discouragement regarding her return to acting after a decade-long hiatus.

Genelia Deshmukh says people discouraged her from making a comeback

Genelia Deshmukh expressed that she does not place significant emphasis on success or failure, stating, "These experiences are simply part of life. I believe we tend to overemphasize our achievements and place undue stress on our setbacks, while the true significance lies in the impact and purpose of our daily lives. As an actress who has performed in six languages and took a hiatus to raise my children, I recall people saying, ‘Oh, you want to return to films after a decade? It won’t succeed,’ yet my comeback film turned out to be a cult classic. We should not heed the opinions of others."

She continued, "During those ten years, my focus was on myself and my children. I remember Riteish emphasizing the importance of making our children capable. Having been accustomed to a protein-rich, non-vegetarian diet, I faced challenges in this regard. This is how Imagine was conceived. It caters to flexitarians—those who eat meat five days a week but choose sustainable options twice a week. Even in the realm of vegetarian foods, our protein choices are quite limited. This realization prompted Riteish and me to develop a sustainable alternative."

For those unfamiliar, Imagine Meats is a plant-based meat venture founded by Genelia and Riteish Deshmukh, aimed at promoting healthier and more conscious eating habits.

Genelia Deshmukh’s upcoming movie

Genelia will soon appear alongside Aamir Khan in the film Sitaare Zameen Par. This movie is inspired by the Spanish film Champions and acts as a spiritual successor to Taare Zameen Par.

In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India, Aamir shared his thoughts on the film, stating, "It’s a beautiful story. To put it simply, Taare Zameen Par is a deeply emotional film that evokes tears, while Sitaare Zameen Par is designed to make you laugh—it’s a comedic film. The underlying theme remains consistent, focusing on individuals with varying abilities, intelligence, or challenges. However, this time, the approach is through humor rather than emotion."
