A few days back, Kannada actor Shivarajkumar came back from the USA, where he had been for a month undergoing surgery to remove and reconstruct his bladder after being diagnosed with cancer. Rumors about his health started circulating in Sandalwood last October when he was promoting his latest film, Bhairathi Ranagal. However, his wife, Geetha Shivarajkumar, has now revealed that he has actually been receiving treatment since March 2024.

Shivarajkumar noticed something off with his urine as the first sign

In a heartfelt chat with B Ganapathi, Geethakka, as she's affectionately called, shared the moment she realized something was off with her husband. The first clue was an unusual change in his urine, prompting immediate tests, including ultrasounds for Shivarajkumar. The results led them to start treatment as soon as possible.

Before their trip to the US, Shivarajkumar had already undergone two surgeries, and Geethakka mentions that he received a clean bill of health after the second one. But soon after, a follow-up revealed that the cancer had spread, leading to the start of chemotherapy. “At first, even Shivarajkumar didn’t know he was facing cancer; he was told it was just an infection. Only a few family members were in the loop,” she shares.

During this time, Shivarajkumar was still a judge on Dance Karnataka Dance, where he was often invited on stage to show off some moves. “I had to inform the showrunner and host about his situation since he had already gone through two surgeries and would tire easily. They were really considerate after that, calling him up on stage less often, which made him curious, but we kept it to ourselves for the moment,” Geethakka explains.

The doctor mentioned for the third time that the cancer was spreading rapidly and that immediate surgery was necessary. “That’s when we finally broke the news to him about his cancer,” she recalls. Even though Shivarajkumar stayed strong after hearing the diagnosis, he did have a few emotional moments—once with his family and another when he was talking to his doctors about treatment options. “The doctors assured us that it wasn’t life-threatening, but they emphasized that treatment needed to start right away. Shivarajkumar gathered himself and told the doctors he was putting his trust in them,” she shares.
