He articulated his belief that such films are no longer pertinent to contemporary society.

Gautham Menon on caste-based films: It is getting a bit too much

Director and actor Gautham Menon was recently featured in the Tamil film Viduthalai: Part 2, directed by Vetrimaaran, which addressed the issues of caste and the power dynamics affecting marginalized communities. In a recent interview, Menon shared his views on the prevalence of caste-based narratives in contemporary cinema and emphasized their necessity.

"I prefer not to specify particular films, but I find the ongoing division among people based on caste and the narratives that depict these divisions, particularly when they are set in the 1980s, to be somewhat excessive. I believe that such stories no longer need to be told. The inability to create narratives that resonate with the present day is why filmmakers resort to settings from the 80s. There seems to be a lack of interest in stories that reflect current realities," stated Gautham Menon.
