Gal Gadot Roasted for Walk of Fame Star; Internet Mocks ‘Red Notice’ Performance

On Tuesday, Israeli actress Gal Gadot was bestowed with the distinguished honour of having her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The ceremony, held outside the El Capitan Theater, was graced by the presence of Gal, her husband, and their four daughters, along with notable figures such as director Patty Jenkins and actor Vin Diesel. During her speech, Gadot took the opportunity to reflect on her journey in Hollywood; however, opinions on whether she merits this recognition are divided.

'Gal Gadot got a star… for what?'

There is considerable confusion among internet users regarding the reasons for Gal's recent honour. TikToker Kevin Smith referred to it as "one of the funniest things" in his commentary on the subject, which has garnered over 500 comments.

He posed the timeless question, "For what? What has she done to deserve this recognition?" He humorously listed her roles, questioning whether it was her captivating performance in Red Notice, her acclaimed portrayal in Netflix's Heart of Stone, her involvement in Joss Whedon's Justice League, the much-criticized sequel Wonder Woman 1984, or perhaps her role in Death on the Nile. He even suggested that it might be related to Fast and Furious. Notably, all the films he referenced received harsh criticism from both critics and audiences.

Gal's most significant commercial and critical success to date remains Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman.

Smith also highlighted several other Hollywood figures who are arguably more deserving of such accolades but have yet to receive them, including two-time Oscar-winning Best Actress Emma Stone and renowned star Leonardo DiCaprio.

The comments section reflects a consensus among users. One commenter stated, “She lacks acting ability. Watching her perform is torturous.” Another added, “Hey everyone, don’t forget her most notable role! The Imagine video fiasco of 2020! That’s what truly made her a star.”

Another user expressed gratitude, saying, “Thank you for highlighting this. Gadot was a decent Wonder Woman (at least in the first film), and that’s where it ends. She should also refrain from sharing her political opinions publicly. But yes, you hit the nail on the head.”

Additionally, there was a significant debate regarding whether celebrities purchase their stars rather than earning them. This notion holds some truth, as only a select few are permitted to pay for a star.

What is the criteria for getting a star?

According to the Hollywood Walk of Fame website, the criteria for being awarded a star include: notable professional accomplishments, a minimum of five years of sustained presence in the industry, contributions to the community, and a commitment from the celebrity to attend the dedication ceremony if chosen. For posthumous awards, a waiting period of five years is required.

Once the Walk of Fame Committee has made its selections, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce's Board of Directors must also vote to approve the star. Subsequently, the names are forwarded to the City of Los Angeles’ Board of Public Works Department for final approval.

All honorees must receive the endorsement of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, whose decisions are conclusive and entirely at its discretion. The nomination and selection processes, along with the associated forms and qualifications, serve as guidelines only and may be modified at any time without prior notice.

Does one have to pay for it?

According to the same website, celebrities are required to pay a fee of $75,000 upon their selection. This amount is allocated for the production and installation of the star, in addition to the upkeep of the Walk of Fame.

Gal's speech during a ceremony

In her address, Gadot reflected on her experiences in Hollywood and emphasized the significance of her family. She humorously noted that each time her career flourished, she found herself expecting a child.

"Every time my career advanced, I ended up pregnant; it was my way of staying grounded. That's what I tell my agents. It's a choice between making films or having children—no more children for now. However, Jaron has always encouraged me to dream and to pursue my passions freely," Gadot shared, as reported by People.

"My daughters, Alma and Maya—who turns 8 today, mazel tov!—Dan Dan, and baby Ori, everything I do is for you. Being your mother is my greatest honour and the most meaningful role I've ever had," Gadot expressed.

"I appreciate you being part of this journey, as we often say. You enable me to chase my dreams, and I hope you realize that you can do the same. You motivate me daily to become a better person, to be strong, kind, and brave, just as you are, and I hope you feel proud," the mother of four added.

Currently, she is portraying The Evil Queen in Disney's live-action adaptation of Snow White, which is set to premiere in India on Friday.
