Gippy Grewal Supports Dharma Productions and Ibrahim Ali Khan Amid Criticism Over Nadaaniyaan

Amidst the growing backlash surrounding Nadaaniyaan, a film featuring Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor, Gippy Grewal has come forward to defend Dharma Productions, Karan Johar, and the young actor Ibrahim Ali Khan. Grewal, who was present at the trailer launch of Akaal alongside Karan Johar and the film's ensemble cast in Mumbai, shared his perspective on the criticism the film and its creators have been facing.
During the media interaction, the conversation turned to Nadaaniyaan and the controversy it sparked. While Karan Johar remained calm and composed, offering a philosophical response with a nod to an old Bollywood song, he said, “I would like to narrate a song from an old movie, Kuch toh log kahenge, logon ka kaam hain kehna. Chodo bekar ki baatein, kahi beet naa jaye raatain,” reminding everyone that people will always have something to say, but it's essential to focus on what's truly important and not let unnecessary criticism waste precious time.
However, it was Gippy Grewal who stepped up to defend the team, recounting his own experience of being criticized early in his career. “When I started my career, people would often say, ‘Now he will sing too, what will he make, he doesn’t know anything.’ Then, when I entered cinema, people said, ‘Now these guys are coming into cinema too.’ But we made Carry On Jatta, and I kid you not, I have heard people say, ‘The way these guys are going, soon they will make 100 crores.’ And we eventually did make 100 crores,” said Grewal.
He emphasized that while criticism is inevitable, it's how one responds to it that truly matters. “So, I don’t think there is anything wrong with it. Some of these things also boost you. See, if it totally depends on you whether you get demoralized, or you want to get up and actually do something,” Grewal continued.
Reflecting on his personal journey from the modest Punjabi film industry to working with major production companies, he emphasized the importance of having the right collaborators in the field. "Our Punjabi industry was small; we began there with the ambition to create quality films and achieve something significant. When we made the decision to produce a Hindi film, we sought to partner with a production house that we would be proud to work with, which is why we are collaborating with Dharma Productions," Grewal stated.
Shifting his focus to Ibrahim Ali Khan, Grewal remarked, "Ibrahim Ali Khan is a young talent who has just completed his first film. While some viewers appreciated it, others did not. I am certain that when Saif Ali Khan debuted, he faced similar reactions. Today, Saif is a well-respected actor, and no one questions his abilities. This is all part of the journey; it is an ongoing process. One must continue to progress."
Gippy Grewal’s sincere support for Dharma Productions, Karan Johar, and Ibrahim Ali Khan underscores a vital truth about the film industry: criticism is an inherent aspect of the journey, and success frequently follows the experience of hardship. His remarks serve as a poignant reminder that the path to achievement is often fraught with obstacles, and resilience is essential for overcoming them.
