Furious Naga Vamsi Challenges Media to Boycott Him After MAD Square Release: ‘Don’t Review, Take My Ads, Interviews

Producer Naga Vamsi conducted a press conference in Hyderabad to talk about his recent release, MAD Square, which is a sequel to the successful 2023 film MAD. He became visibly frustrated when addressing certain reviews that suggested the new film did not measure up to its predecessor or raised doubts about its box office performance.

Naga Vamsi challenges the media to boycott him

Vamsi asserted that those who believe MAD Square's success is solely due to Robinhood's tepid reception are mistaken. He questioned, “Are people unaware of their preferences, or do you (the reviewers) possess all the knowledge? We must learn to coexist within the film industry. Your websites and YouTube channels thrive because we provide you with content and interviews. We also supply advertisements, so please refrain from undermining cinema, as your existence is tied to this industry,” he remarked with sarcasm.

In response to the observation that actors and technicians participate in interviews or share news primarily for self-promotion, he countered, “Dammunte mani pareyandi…ban cheyyandi. (I dare you to ban me) Go ahead and ban me and my films, refrain from reviewing them, and stop accepting my advertisements. Let’s see how that plays out. I will still find ways to promote my films; I will handle that challenge. But how will you sustain yourselves? Your existence relies on the industry.”

The producer further urged the audience to regard reviews with skepticism, stating, “I haven’t mentioned this before, but a review is merely a personal opinion. It’s not akin to an election outcome where the majority opinion prevails. If someone has a domestic dispute and subsequently gives a negative review, it’s hardly surprising. Don’t trust reviews. While everyone appreciated Lucky Baskhar, critics did not commend it.” He also challenged the media to refute his claims, asserting that the film has grossed ₹69.4 crore worldwide since its release on March 28.

Recent work

MAD Square features Narne Nithiin, Sangeeth Sobhan, Ram Nitin, and Priyanka Jawalkar in prominent roles, with Kalyan Shankar at the helm as director. The film is produced by Sithara Entertainments, led by Vamsi, who is also supporting Gowtam Tinnanuri's upcoming project, Kingdom, starring Vijay Deverakonda. Additionally, Vamsi is backing Karthik Subbaraj's Telugu film Retro, which stars Suriya and Pooja Hegde.
