Kaun Banega Crorepati has established itself as one of the most successful programs on Indian television for more than 25 years. Under the esteemed hosting of Amitabh Bachchan, the show's popularity remains strong, having created numerous new crorepatis throughout its run. The first individual to achieve this milestone was the talented and youthful Harshvardhan Nawathe, who became the inaugural crorepati during the show's first season in 2000 at the age of approximately 27. Now at 52, Harshvardhan has built a remarkable life for himself and currently serves as the CEO of a well-respected organization.

What is he upto now?

In December of the previous year, Harshvardhan assumed the position of CEO at JSW Foundation, the social development division of the JSW Group, according to HR Today. He is responsible for guiding the organization's strategic vision and managing social initiatives throughout India. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of JSW Foundation since May 2023.

Before joining JSW Foundation, he directed corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability efforts at NatWest Group, holding the title of Director and Head of Sustainable Banking Performance, Frameworks, Giving, and Governance.

At Welspun Group, he occupied significant leadership positions, including Vice President of Group CSR and Chief Operating Officer of Welspun Foundation, where he crafted innovative strategies for social responsibility.

Earlier in his career, he led group-wide CSR initiatives at Mahindra Group as Head of Group CSR, ensuring that these efforts were in line with sustainable development objectives. His experience also includes a role at Naandi Foundation, where he managed extensive projects aimed at improving education and water accessibility throughout India.

How KBC changed his life

Harshvardhan recently made a return to KBC for a special episode, where he shared insights on how the show significantly impacted his life. In a 2021 interview with Hindustan Times, he reflected on this transformation, stating, "After participating in the show, I gained recognition and financial stability. Naturally, such popularity alters the perception others have of you. It has been a remarkable experience to meet people and receive recognition across various platforms." He acknowledged, however, that he understood the initial excitement would eventually fade, leading to a return to normalcy.

Nawathe further emphasized, "To achieve success in life, it is essential to have a clear vision of the path you wish to pursue. In the early months following my rise to fame, I experienced a lifestyle akin to that of a rock star. There were individuals waiting for autographs in my residential complex, making it difficult to move freely, necessitating the presence of security. Consequently, I was under police protection for an extended period."
