Another photograph shows them standing side by side. The report further indicates that the auto driver also had the opportunity to meet Saif’s family, including his mother, Sharmila Tagore, who all expressed their appreciation for his prompt action in getting Saif to the hospital. The photographs appear to have been taken at Lilavati Hospital, where Saif was admitted in the early hours of January 16.
What happened on January 16
Saif was reportedly stabbed multiple times by Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad during an attempted robbery. As per PTI, the assailant, an undocumented immigrant from Bangladesh, informed the police that he stabbed the actor in the back in an effort to escape from Saif's grip. This incident occurred after a staff member noticed the intruder and initiated a confrontation around 2:30 a.m. The attacker managed to escape through the same bathroom window he had entered, and it took the police three days to apprehend him. Bhajan transported Saif to the hospital around 3 a.m.
The driver recounted the events of that night in an interview with ANI, stating, “I operate my vehicle during the night. It was approximately 2-3 a.m. when I observed a woman attempting to hire an auto, but no one stopped. I also heard calls for a rickshaw from inside the gate. I made a U-turn and parked my vehicle near the gate. A man covered in blood emerged, accompanied by 2-4 others. They placed him in the auto and directed me to Lilavati Hospital. I dropped them off and later learned that he was Saif Ali Khan. I noticed he was bleeding from his neck and back.”
The police took Saif’s statement after he returned home on Tuesday.
