Veteran Korean actor Lee Joo-shil has sadly passed away. The 80-year-old lost her fight against cancer on February 2. She had been battling stomach cancer, and it looks like her role in Squid Game season 2 will be her final performance on screen.

Veteran actress Lee Joo-shil's agency has announced that she passed away in the early hours of Sunday, February 2. She had been fighting stomach cancer, and it seems she ultimately lost that battle. Her agency mentioned that her health took a turn for the worse about three months ago. Interestingly, she was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer back in 1993 but managed to overcome it.

Lee Joo-shil took on the role of Wi Ha-joon's mom in Squid Game 2. In the show, she was seen inquiring about her son’s brother, who is revealed to be the Frontman. As for whether Lee Joo-shil will return for Squid Game 3, that's still up in the air since both seasons were filmed at the same time.
Lee Joo-shil is an interesting person with a unique background
Joo-shil kicked off her career as a stage actress back in 1965, but she really hit the spotlight in the 70s and 80s with performances in classics like Macbeth and Death of a Salesman. She also appeared in Gong Yoo's hit movie Train to Busan. Her TV credits include Ahn Hyo-seop's A Time Called You, Cho Seung-woo's Divorce Attorney Shin, Park Hyun-sik's Happiness, Ra Mi-ran's The Good Bad Mother, and Jo Byeong-kyu's The Uncanny Counter.
Her funeral is set to take place in Seoul on February 5. Rest in peace, Lee Joo-shil.
