It is a sad day for filmmakers Farah Khan and Sajid Khan, as their mother, Menaka Irani, aged 79, has passed away. Multiple reports have confirmed the development today. Though the family has yet to issue an official statement on the news, it is worth noting that Menaka underwent multiple surgeries prior to her 79th birthday celebration on July 12.

Menaka Irani passes away

Popular casting director Mukesh Chhabra has reportedly confirmed the news of Menaka Irani's passing to the India Today news outlet.

More details on her death are awaited.

Menaka was the sister of actresses Honey Irani and Daisy Irani. She also acted in the 1963 movie Bachpan, which starred Salim Khan, the screenwriter and father of Salman Khan. She was married to filmmaker Kamran Khan.

A few weeks ago, Farah Khan, who has over 4 million Instagram followers, shared a birthday post for Menaka in which she openly shared that her mother had undergone some surgeries, following which she was keeping positive and cheerful.

“We all take our mothers for granted, especially me. The last month has been a revelation of how much I love my mom, Menaka. She is the strongest, bravest person I have ever seen. Her sense of humour is intact even after multiple surgeries. Happy Birthday, mom! Today is a good day to come back home. Can’t wait for you to get strong enough to start fighting with me again. I love️ you,” Farah had poseted on Instagram.

Farah Khan's father's death

Farah has publicly spoken about how she, her brother Sajid, and their mother handled the financial fallout after Kamran Khan died as a result of extreme alcoholism. “Yes, my family was famous, but by the time I was five years old, we were just underprivileged cousins. Dad's movie had not done well, and we had lost every penny. Our story was one of riches to rags,” she once said to Radio Nasha.

Farah Khan last choreographed the hit song, Chaleya, from the blockbuster Shah Rukh Khan starrer Jawan, which was released in 2023.
