Singer Amaal Mallik surprised a lot of people with his recent Instagram update, where he opened up about struggling with clinical depression for some time. In a heartfelt message, he explained that he has decided to distance himself from his parents, as they have negatively impacted his mental health and self-esteem over the past few years. Fans flooded social media with support, applauding him for his honesty and sending their best wishes.

Amaal's statement

Amaal expressed in the note, "I've finally reached a stage where I can't stay quiet about the suffering I've faced. For so long, I've been made to feel inferior, even after dedicating countless days and nights to build a secure life for others. I've sacrificed all my dreams, only to be belittled and questioned about my achievements. I've poured my heart and soul into crafting each of the 126 melodies that have come out over the past ten years."

I just kept moving forward

He mentioned, "Over the years, they’ve done everything possible to disrupt my peace and undermine my friendships, relationships, mindset, and self-esteem. But I kept pushing forward because I know I can and I believe I’m resilient."

The message went on, "However, today I find myself in a place where my peace has been taken away, leaving me emotionally and possibly financially drained, though that’s not my main concern. What truly matters is that I’m dealing with clinical depression due to these events. I know I can only blame myself for my choices, but my self-worth has been chipped away time and again by the actions of those close to me, which have taken a toll on my spirit."

He wrapped up by saying, "From this point forward, my relationship with my family will be strictly professional. This isn’t a choice made out of anger, but rather a necessary step for my healing and to take back control of my life. I won’t allow the past to steal my future any longer. I’m dedicated to rebuilding my life, piece by piece, with integrity and strength."

I hope he heals and continues to pursue his love for music. I also hope others in similar situations find the strength to advocate for themselves and work through their pain. No child should have to endure this!”

Another user remarked, “The younger child is often the favorite, while the older one is expected to always adjust and compromise from a young age.” Someone else added, “This is heartbreaking! Amaal is the eldest son of Daboo Malik and Jyothi Malik, and he has a brother, singer Armaan Malik. He is also the nephew of Bollywood music composer Anu Malik. Amaal kicked off his career with three songs for Salman Khan's film Jai Ho.
