The trailer for Mohanlal's film Thudarum was released on March 26, 2025. Almost immediately after its online debut, fans flocked to social media to express their excitement over the preview while also questioning whether director Tharun Moorthy is concealing deeper themes beneath the surface of the seemingly uplifting moments. Could Thudarum follow a path similar to that of Drishyam? Let us analyze the Thudarum trailer to evaluate this possibility.

Mohanlal’s Thudarum to follow Drishyam model?

The Thudarum trailer opens with Mohanlal, known for his role in Lucifer, portraying Shanmugham, who is seen engaging in lighthearted exchanges with his wife Lalitha, played by the charming Shobana. The trailer is filled with humorous dialogues and heartwarming scenes that suggest a feel-good narrative. However, is that the complete picture? It also includes sequences set in a police station, where Mohanlal inquires about his cherished ambassador car. The trailer concludes with a poignant moment featuring Shanmugham, who expresses to Kuttichan that he did not choose to be caught in the rain; rather, circumstances forced him into it.

For those unfamiliar with the Drishyam series, the first installment similarly began with tender interactions between Mohanlal’s character Georgekutty, his wife Rani (Meena), and their two daughters. These joyful family scenes dominate the first half of the film until a crime disrupts their lives, prompting Georgekutty to take drastic measures to safeguard his family from law enforcement.

The Thudarum trailer, which ends with a striking expression on Mohanlal’s face, has ignited conversations about whether Tharun Moorthy's direction will mirror the approach taken by Jeethu Joseph in Drishyam.

Fans suspect Tharun is ‘cooking something’

Following the release of the Thudarum trailer, viewers remarked that it appears unlikely to be a conventional feel-good family drama. One user even suggested it resembles "a movie like Drishyam."

In a recent interview with Baradwaj Rangan for Galatta Plus, Mohanlal himself described Thudarum as a film that embodies a "very Drishyam-like essence."

Overall, the Thudarum trailer, reminiscent of Drishyam, has captured the attention of Lalettan's fans, who are eager for Mohanlal to once again produce a hit film under the direction of Tharun Moorthy.

In addition, Mohanlal's Empuraan, the sequel to the Lucifer series, is set to premiere in theaters on March 27.
