South Korean actress Kang Myung Joo, best known for her performance in the acclaimed drama series Extraordinary Attorney Woo, tragically passed away on February 27. 

At the age of 54, the K-drama star was engaged in a battle with cancer. Reports from Korean media have indicated that her funeral service will take place at Seoul St Mary’s Hospital, with the burial set for March 2, 2025, at 7:40 am KST. She is survived by her grieving family, including her husband, actor Park Yun Hee, and their two daughters.

Kang’s daughter, actress Park Se Young, expressed her sorrow over her mother’s death on social media, stating: “My mom left us yesterday afternoon. We would appreciate it if you could remember the stage she loved and the moments she shone.”

Widely recognized for her guest and supporting roles in numerous mainstream K-drama, the actress commenced her acting career in 1992. She began her journey with the experimental theatre group ‘Kooni, Nara,’ where Kang Myung Joo established her presence in the performing arts by engaging in productions such as Hamlet, Circle of Life, Humans or Gods, and Coriolanus, according to AllKpop.

In her latest endeavours, she has showcased her talent on stage in productions like BEA and 20th Century Blues.

The theatre actress, as noted in her MyDramaList profile, portrayed the character of a judge in the 2022 drama, Extraordinary Attorney Woo, which featured Park Eun Bin, Kang Tae Oh, and others. Additionally, she appeared in several other productions, including Sh**ting Stars (starring Lee Sung Kyung and Kim Young Dae), Dr Romantic Season 3 (with Han Seok Kyu, Lee Sung Kyung, and Ahn Hyo Seop), See You In My 19th Life (featuring Ahn Bo Hyun and Shin Hye Sun), A Time Called You (with Ahn Hyo Seop and Jeon Yeo Been), Doona! (starring Suzy and Yang Se Jong), and Castaway Diva (featuring Park Eun Bin and Chae Jong Hyeop).

Her last commitment to a K-drama was reportedly for the 2024 MBC series, Wonderful World, which stars Kim Nam Joo and Cha Eunwoo.
