Actor Emraan Hashmi has captivated audiences with his compelling performances in both films and web series. However, he encountered one of the most challenging periods of his life a few years ago when his son was diagnosed with cancer. The actor openly recounted the moment when his son, Ayaan, received the diagnosis, revealing that he and his wife, Parveen Shahani, wept in a separate room to shield their son from their distress.
Emraan Hashmi discusses his son's cancer diagnosis
During an appearance on Ranveer Allahabadia's podcast, Hashmi shared how his life was turned upside down in just a few hours. Reflecting on that fateful day, he recounted that his family was enjoying brunch at Taj Land's End when his son exhibited his first symptom.
"My life changed in a single afternoon. On January 13, we were having brunch at the Taj Lands, and my son experienced his first symptom at the table. He asked my wife to take him to the room because he had blood in his urine. That was the initial sign, and from that moment, our delightful brunch transformed into a nightmare. Within three hours, we found ourselves at a doctor's clinic, where we learned that our son had cancer. We had to arrange for surgery the following day, followed by chemotherapy," the actor explained.
For Emraan and his family, the subsequent years were marked by relentless anxiety, countless hospital visits, and the singular hope for recovery. He expressed the immense difficulty of navigating this ordeal, emphasizing the need for the family to remain strong in front of his son for his emotional well-being.
'We couldn't cry in front of our son'
Upon receiving the news for the first time, we found ourselves unable to express our grief in front of our son. We retreated to a private space and wept openly. Our intention was to shield him from our emotions as we recognized the importance of maintaining his mental well-being. He had been on a path of recovery for at least five years, and it was crucial for us to present a facade of strength, avoiding any display of vulnerability, Emraan remarked.
Regarding Emraan's professional endeavors, despite the challenges in his personal life that tested his emotional resilience, he remained committed to his work over the years. He is set to appear in "Ground Zero," a war drama directed by Tejas Prabha Vijay Deoskar. The screenplay is crafted by Sanchit Gupta and Priyadarshee Srivastav, and the film features a talented cast including Sai Tamhankar, Zoya Hussain, Mukesh Tiwari, Deepak Parmesh, Lalit Prabhakar, Rocky Raina, and Rahul Vohra. The release date for the film is April 25.
