4 days ago | 5 Views
Emraan Hashmi is a Bollywood actor well-known to those who grew up in the 1990s, often recognized as the 'serial kisser' or as the star behind some of the most iconic songs in cinema. He earned the nickname 'serial kisser' due to his risqué scenes in films such as Murder and Aashiq Banaaya Aapne. In a recent discussion with Ranveer Allahbadia, Emraan, who is returning to acting with Awarapan 2, addressed this label and its influence on his career, as well as the issue of superficial friendships in the Bollywood industry. Here’s a summary of his insights.
Emraan Hashmi vs the serial kisser tag

In a discussion with Ranveer Allahbadia, Emraan Hashmi reflected on the period from 2003 to 2012 when he was often labeled as the 'serial kisser.' He noted that this label became a marketing tactic, with the media frequently emphasizing it alongside his name. "During a significant portion of my career from 2003 to 2012, my image was so manipulated that it turned into a label, which was utilized in marketing," he shared, expressing mild frustration at this portrayal. He emphasized that, ultimately, he is an actor who desires to be recognized for more than just the 'serial kisser' persona.
Emraan Hashmi's journey of transformation and anticipated return
After taking a short hiatus in hopes that audiences would move past the 'serial kisser' label, Emraan Hashmi focused on selecting projects that would showcase his acting abilities. One such project was Why Cheat India?, a film centered around a scam involving examination papers. Unfortunately, the film did not achieve the expected success at the Box Office, as the label continued to linger in the minds of the audience.

Emraan Hashmi has not only starred in Why Cheat India? but also portrayed former cricketer Mohammed Azharuddin in the biopic Azhar. While the film featured glamour, it offered only a minimal amount of sensuality. Despite the film's lack of impact, Emraan continued to make deliberate efforts to reshape his public persona. Now, following the pandemic, he is returning with renewed aspirations, aiming to make a significant change with his upcoming projects, Ground Zero and Awarapan 2.
In a candid conversation, Emraan Hashmi and Ranveer Allahbadia opened up about the most challenging periods of their lives. BeerBiceps recently drew attention due to a remark made on Samay Raina's show, India's Got Latent, which led to a court appearance regarding a plea to continue his podcast, essential for his livelihood. Emraan reflected on the harsh realities of Bollywood, sharing that while he felt adored at the peak of his career, he found himself isolated during his lowest moments. He reminisced about receiving numerous bouquets during his successes, leaving him with little space at home, yet during his struggles, not a single person reached out. "When your chips are down, you really find out who your true friends are," Emraan remarked, emphasizing that relationships based on need are prevalent in the industry. "You’re just a means to their end. You are merely a return on the investment they make," he explained.
Awarapan 2 is set to premiere in theaters on April 3, 2026.
