Prithviraj Sukumaran’s highly anticipated film Empuraan, featuring Mohanlal, is set to be released in just 16 days. The excitement surrounding this large-scale production is palpable, not only among fans but also within the industry. Director and actor Dileesh Pothan has expressed that the success of Empuraan is crucial for the Malayalam film industry.

Dileesh Pothan on the importance of Empuraan’s success  

Currently engaged in promoting his latest film, Ouseppinte Osiyathu, Dileesh Pothan shared his thoughts on the high expectations for Empuraan. 

"Given the substantial budget and the significant anticipation surrounding Empuraan, it is essential for the industry that this film achieves success," stated Dileesh Pothan, who has directed several acclaimed films, including Maheshinte Prathikaaram and Joji. 

"As a filmmaker, the success of current major films is vital for planning future large-scale projects," Dileesh Pothan remarked during the promotional activities for Ouseppinte Osiyathu, which premiered in theaters on March 7, 2025. The cast of the film also includes Vijayaraghavan, Hemanth Menon, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Kani Kusruti, and Zarin Shihab.

Empuraan release date

Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, is set to make its highly anticipated debut on March 27, 2025. In this sequel to the Lucifer franchise, Mohanlal reprises his role as Khureshi Ab'raam, also known as Stephen Nedumpally.

The original film, Lucifer, released in 2019, featured Mohanlal alongside a distinguished cast that included Prithviraj Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, and Manju Warrier, among others. All these prominent actors will return for Empuraan, which will explore the narrative of Khureshi Ab'raam and the dominion he oversees.

The Hindi-dubbed version of the Malayalam film Lucifer can be accessed on OTTplay Premium, alongside a selection of other South Indian films. 

Additionally, the trailer for Empuraan is anticipated to be released next week, specifically on March 17, although the production team has not yet confirmed the official release date. Empuraan boasts an extensive cast featuring prominent actors from multiple film industries.
