Empuraan Isn't Just Another Sequel! Prithviraj Reveals What Sets It Apart
3 days ago | 5 Views
Following the considerable discussion surrounding Lyca Productions' departure and Gokulam Movies' involvement, the team behind Empuraan is diligently promoting the film in anticipation of its upcoming release. This movie, featuring Mohanlal and directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, is set to hit theatres six years after the debut of its predecessor, Lucifer, in 2019. Recently, Prithviraj Sukumaran articulated that Empuraan distinguishes itself from conventional sequels and elaborated on this perspective.
Prithviraj Sukumaran on Empuraan
In a recent conversation with Baradwaj Rangan for Galatta Plus, director Prithviraj Sukumaran remarked that Empuraan can function independently as a film.
“Empuraan is somewhat unique compared to typical sequels. I would prefer to describe it as a continuation of Lucifer that stands alone, essentially serving as the middle segment of a trilogy. Therefore, I believe that even those who have not watched Lucifer will find this film effective as a standalone experience,” he stated.
The esteemed Malayalam actor and filmmaker further elaborated that the narrative extends beyond the events that follow those in Lucifer. "We also explore the past and various elements related to it," he remarked.
L2 Empuraan Release Date
L2 Empuraan, the highly anticipated sequel in the Lucifer trilogy, is set to premiere in theatres globally on March 27, 2025. Mohanlal reprises his role as Khureshi Ab'raam, also known as Stephen Nedumpally, in this instalment, which will advance the storyline and provide the audience with a broader understanding of Khureshi Ab'raam's universe. Prithviraj Sukumaran will also feature in the cast of Empuraan, portraying Zayed Masood, the loyal confidant of Khureshi.

Prithviraj made an impressive directorial debut with the film Lucifer, which achieved blockbuster status in 2019. The movie can be streamed on SonyLiv and OTTplay Premium. It concluded with a cliffhanger, revealing Stephen, previously depicted as a political figure in Kerala, as Khureshi Ab’raam. Excitement is building for the release of Empuraan, with fans already reserving tickets for the first-day-first-show, set to commence at 6 AM on March 27.
