The discourse surrounding content and the types of films and television shows produced in India has emerged as a significant topic of conversation within the nation. In recent months, numerous artists have voiced their opinions on this issue. The most recent to contribute is Anurag Kashyap, who, in a candid Instagram post, openly criticized Netflix India for its perceived hypocrisy. He condemned the streaming platform for failing to approve projects that are as bold and well-crafted as the new Netflix series, Adolescence. Kashyap accused Netflix India of neglecting to support high-quality content. In a related context, it appears that Ekta Kapoor has subtly responded to Anurag's remarks while offering her own viewpoint on the situation.

In a series of Instagram stories, Ekta Kapoor responded to the criticism aimed at content creators for focusing on a specific genre while neglecting artistic storytelling. She proposed that the audience may not yet be prepared for the types of films that certain directors aspire to make. She referenced "Superboys of Malegaon" and her own production, "The Buckingham Murders," as illustrative examples. Although these films received critical acclaim, they did not perform well at the box office. In her remarks, she seemingly directed a subtle critique towards Kashyap. "When Indian creators lament that Indian content does not measure up to internationally recognized TV series and films, I question whether it stems from ego, frustration, or simply misguided accusations," Ekta stated, before highlighting "Superboys of Malegaon" and "The Buckingham Murders."

She continued by saying, "When 'Superboys of Malegaon' and my dear friend @hansalmehta’s 'The Buckingham Murders' fail to succeed in theaters, can we truly hold the audience accountable? And since it’s not particularly engaging to blame people in such vague terms (we can’t target them on social media, which takes away the fun), let’s acknowledge that a significant portion of India is still evolving in its content consumption habits! One might say it is in its adolescent phase."

Ekta motivated Indian creators to take initiative by investing their own resources into the content they aspire to produce, rather than relying on corporate studios and streaming services for support.

"I encourage creators to challenge the existing system. These profit-driven corporate studios and applications prioritize financial gain and metrics (myself included) above all else! Filmmaking and content creation should not be viewed merely as a business; they are forms of art, and I am committed to supporting that art. Therefore, I call on creators to invest their own funds... and the issue will be resolved!" she emphasized.
