The Mahakumbh Mela is presently taking place in Prayagraj, anticipated to attract over 450 million pilgrims to the sangam ghat over the course of two months, marking it as the largest congregation of people globally. This event has also drawn the attention of several celebrities, including actors Esha Gupta, Srinidhi Shetty, and Sonu Sood, who have already made their visits, while Rajkummar Rao has expressed his intention to attend. In the midst of this, comedian Bharti Singh's remarks regarding her decision not to attend the Kumbh have sparked a divided reaction online.
Bharti Singh on not going to the Mahakumbh
A video shared by Instant Bollywood features Bharti Singh engaging with paparazzi earlier this week. When asked if she would be attending the Mahakumbh, the well-known comedian replied, "To faint and die or get lost?" She further elaborated, “I truly wanted to go, but with each passing day, I hear such distressing news from there, and I cannot consider taking my son along.”
Bharti and her husband, Haarsh Limbachiyaa, are parents to a son named Laksh, affectionately referred to as Gola, who was born in April 2022. The distressing news Bharti mentioned pertains to a stampede that occurred at the Mahakumbh last month, prior to the shahi snan on Mauni Amavasya, resulting in the tragic loss of 30 lives, according to official reports.
Internet reacts to Bharti's statement
Bharti's comments regarding the crowd at the Mahakumbh have elicited mixed reactions on the internet. Many users supported her viewpoint, asserting that it was wise to refrain from attending with a child. One individual remarked, "She is right. It is very crowded and can be dangerous for children," while another added, "Bharti said the right thing."
A different segment of the online community expressed discontent with the comment, alleging that Bharti was disparaging the Kumbh Mela. One user remarked, "Do not tarnish the reputation of the Kumbh." Another individual stated, "If you lack accurate information, refrain from misleading others... do not project your assumptions onto the media." Additionally, one commenter criticized Bharti's tone, stating, "Did everyone who attended the Kumbh faint and perish? Not everything is a subject for humor."
