Former cardiac surgeon, now health influencer Dr. Sriram Nene recently participated in a panel discussion where he talked about a range of topics. From moving from the US to India nearly ten years ago to aiming to improve people's lives through health technology, he covered it all. The doctor also discussed how life transformed after he married Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit.

‘Madhuri is the famous one’: Dr. Nene

During the panel discussion hosted by INK founder and CEO Lakshmi Pratury in January, Dr. Nene revealed how fame unexpectedly came to him. "I’m the accidental yankee in King Arthur’s court, and the incidental tourist, if you will. My wife’s the famous one, I’m just here for the ride. But, aside from the imposter syndrome that everyone experiences on the spectrum, it’s the power of one to make a difference in the lives of many. Never underestimate how influential each of you is. "

A changed life for Dr. Nene

He further described the type of work he performed as a cardiac surgeon at UCLA with his celebrity patients and how he himself has become a celebrity in India. “I was at UCLA, I took care of many celebrities. This was even before I was married. The only thing they desired was privacy. They only wanted to put their pants on one leg at a time and not be recognized. Now I’m experiencing the complete opposite of that. Everyone wants a selfie with me. How do I handle this? Honestly, I wish to engage in conversation with them, and it becomes difficult. ”

Dr. Nene stated that he and Madhuri are also ‘very humble people’ who never do anything solely for the sake of gaining more fame.

The couple wed in 1999 and have two children. They resided in the US for the first decade of their marriage before relocating to India, where Madhuri restarted her Bollywood career and Dr. Nene focused on becoming a health influencer. He currently has 781,000 followers on Instagram and 500,000 subscribers on YouTube.
