Will Korean superstar Don Lee aka Ma Dong-seok, who has starred in movies such as The Eternals, The Round franchise, and Train to Busan, team up with Baahubali star Prabhas and Malayalam star Mohanlal? That’s what fans of the two Indian actors seem to think so.
The team-up with Prabhas, which has been long rumored ever since Animal director Sandeep Vanga Reddy had confirmed his project was titled Spirit and had the Salaar star in the lead, was teased by the Korean star himself. On Saturday, he shared a poster of Prabhas on his Instagram story.
Prabhas fans welcome ‘Don Lee garu’ to Telugu cinema with Spirit
Fans of the Telugu superstar were quick to take that as a confirmation from Don Lee, who is known for his hard-hitting action films, that he will indeed be part of Spirit, which is set to go on floors later this year. The Korean actor was reportedly approached to play the chief antagonist in the movie, which has Prabhas essaying the role of a cop.
Every post that Don Lee had posted, dating as far as 10 months ago, was picked by Telugu fans to comment and ask him about his casting in Spirit along with Prabhas. “Now, we will call you Don Lee garu,” commented a user, on the actor’s post from April 30 when he shared an update on The Round Up: Punishment. Meanwhile, some fans also commented that Don Lee would be a better fit as an antagonist in Prashant Neel's Salaar 2: Shourangya Parvam.
Another commenter asked, “Sir, we Prabhas fans want you to something about you and him acting (sic).” GIFs from Prabhas’ films including Salaar were posted on various photos; it’s no wonder that the actor must have felt that he needed to shower some love back by posting a Prabhas photo on his Insta page.
Don Lee in Mohanlal’s Empuraan?
But it’s not just Prabhas fans who were going wild on Don Lee’s social media pages last week. Malayalam superstar Mohanlal's fans too had been commenting on his posts, asking if he was indeed part of L2: Empuraan, which is directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran.
This was in response to a poster that Mohanlal and the team had shared last week, teasing a cameo from an actor, who will be seen as part of the Yakuza. Fans didn’t waste any moment to speculate that it was Don Lee himself. Incidentally, the Korean star’s The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil is a film that a lot of Malayalis who have been ardently following Korean movies have wanted to be remade with Mohanlal, Fahadh Faasil and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Will this remain as just wishful thinking or could it materialise? L2: Empuraan is set to hit theatre on March 27, 2025.
