On Tuesday, the roof of the well-known Jet Set nightclub in Santo Domingo unexpectedly gave way, resulting in the deaths of at least 124 individuals and leaving many others trapped beneath the debris. Social media quickly became a platform for tributes honoring those impacted by this disaster.

Celebrities speak out after deadly Dominican Republic roof collapse

In the wake of the tragic collapse, Cardi B, whose father hails from the Dominican Republic, shared a photo on her Instagram Story featuring a cutout map of the Dominican Republic adorned with a black ribbon. Oscar-winning actress Zoe Saldaña also expressed her condolences for the lives lost in the incident by reposting a message initially shared by Cinestar Pictures, a film production company, on her Instagram Story.

“Today, we grieve the heartbreaking roof collapse at Jetset nightclub in the Dominican Republic. We extend our love and strength to the victims, their families, and all those impacted. In times of grief, let us unite in solidarity and compassion,” the message from Saldaña stated. The 46-year-old highlighted her Dominican roots while accepting the Academy Award for her performance as Emilia Pérez in March.

Dominican-American artist Prince Royce also took to his Instagram Stories to convey his sorrow regarding the incident. “My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this tragic event at the nightclub in Santo Domingo. Wishing peace and strength to all,” he wrote.

Additionally, 19-time Grammy winner Emilio Estefan remarked, “We stand united with the Dominican Republic during this time of grief. We share in the sorrow of a beloved nation. Our prayers are with all the families affected. Emilio, Gloria, and the Estefan family.”
