Directors guild stands united against the ‘bullying’ of the Federation

Two months back, the suspension on director Rahool Mukherjee was lifted, but he was not allowed work by the Federation’s technicians. They were absent from the set on the first day of the shoot. Even after the intervention of Mamata Banerjee, they stayed away from the project using many excuses.

That was the time the directors stood united. Directors’ Guild proved that once again in the Technician’s Studio on Monday. In front of the media, the Guild’s president Subrata Sen, secretary Sudeshna Roy, director Indranil Roychoudhury, and others vehemently condemned the incident that happened to the hairstylist. They reminded the injustice done to Rahool. They claimed that such incidents have been going on for a long time.

Sudeshna described the injustice that happened with the hairstylist, who called her many times complaining that no work was given to her. She regretted, ‘If we took a step at that time, such an incident would not happen’. Subrata said ‘The situation is so bad that perhaps we will have to sell vegetables soon.’ He said that many technicians, directors, and actors were compelled to sell vegetables because they did not get work.

Indranil said, ‘No one has the right to take away work. No trade union can pass a law, be it Guild or Federation. He asked to cooperate with the hairstylist once she got back to work. However, he expressed doubt about how much the girl would cooperation. Dresser Sabarni Das and actress Ananya Sen were also present. They said that the thought of making the committee came to mind considering the safety of women and children involved in the entertainment industry.

Will the Guild stand by the hairstylist’s side if, after recovering, she does not get work? Will the directors give her legal help?

The unanimous claim was that the Guild would be by the side of not only the hairstylist but everyone who would have problems. The meeting also sent a message to the Federation president Swarup Biswas. Swarup recently stated in the media that 60% of the sexual harassment complaints are against the directors. The directors sent him a legal notice. They said that the notice has not been answered and they would legally do everything. Some people also claim that the hairstylist is doing a drama and did not pour kerosene all over herself. Sudeshna replied ‘The accused persons are spreading fake news to divert attention.’
