Director Prashanth Neel recently filmed a promotional interview to mark the one-year anniversary of Salaar: Part 1—Ceasefire. During the chat about the film featuring Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran, he confessed to feeling a bit ‘complacent’ after the huge success of KGF: Chapter 2, and he shared his thoughts on Salaar: Part 2—Shouryanga Parvam.

Prashanth Neel talks about Salaar 2

Prashanth shared in an interview that the essence of Salaar isn't just about the action scenes; it's really about the emotional depth of the story, focusing on two childhood friends who become rivals.

He mentioned, "Salaar isn't just about the weapons and fights; it's really about what causes best friends, Deva and Varadha, to turn against each other. I'm focusing on that pivotal moment that leads to their split, which will be explored in part 2. The drama here is different from what we saw in Ugramm, the Kannada film that inspired Salaar."

Prashanth once shared that his dream was to see packed theaters for the story of Ugramm, and he was hoping to make that happen with Salaar. However, the film went head-to-head with Shah Rukh Khan's Dunki at the box office.

When he was asked about his feelings on the film's success, he said, “I’m not entirely satisfied…I feel a bit let down considering the effort I put into the first part. Maybe I got a bit too comfortable after KGF 2. Because of that, I’ve decided to make Salaar 2 my best film yet. The writing I’ve done for Salaar 2 is some of my finest work. I’m determined to make up for it, and I’m sure it’ll be one of my best projects.”

Future tasks ahead

Besides Salaar: Part 2—Ceasefire, Prashanth is also working on a new film featuring Jr NTR as the main character. They kicked off the project in August with a pooja ceremony, and it's set to hit theaters in January 2026. When questioned about whether it’s a mythological film, the director clarified, “It’s a periodic film, but not mythological. That’s something for later.”
