Sean “Diddy” Combs is encountering additional challenges as his attorney has unexpectedly resigned from his legal team. Anthony Ricco submitted an unforeseen motion to withdraw from representation, accompanied by an enigmatic statement in New York on Friday, as reported by The Sun.

Ricco informed the court through his correspondence, “While I have provided Sean Combs with the level of legal representation anticipated by the court, I can no longer effectively serve as his counsel under any circumstances,” as reported by the outlet. The communication also noted that prior discussions had occurred between lead counsel Mark Agnifilo and Ricco before the motion was submitted.

“Although I acknowledge that the Local Rule requires an application for withdrawal of counsel to be substantiated and granted 'only upon a showing by affidavit or otherwise of satisfactory reasons for withdrawal,' I contend that there are sufficient reasons (related to the protections of attorney/client privilege) that warrant a concise application for my withdrawal as counsel in this case,” Ricco remarked.

The attorney further indicated that his resignation would aid in advancing Combs' case. “If this motion for withdrawal of counsel is granted, it will not result in any delays regarding the current schedule for jury selection and trial, nor will it impact the existing timelines for addressing pre-trial legal issues,” Ricco stated, as reported by LadBible.

The 55-year-old music executive has denied all accusations against him. Nevertheless, he faces the possibility of a life sentence if convicted. Combs is currently awaiting trial, scheduled for May 5, while being held at Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center. Following his arrest in September 2024, the Finna Get Loose rapper was charged with racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation for the purpose of engaging in prostitution.
