Kiran Rao's Laapataa Ladies may not have achieved significant box office success, yet it garnered positive reviews from critics. Recently, the film received 10 awards at the 2025 IIFA Awards, including Best Supporting Actor for Ravi Kishan. Interestingly, Ravi Kishan was not originally intended to be part of the cast; Kiran's former husband and the film's producer, Aamir Khan, had auditioned for the same role. Aamir recently uploaded the audition tape on YouTube, prompting a response from Ravi Kishan.

Aamir Khan's audition for Laapataa Ladies

On Wednesday, Aamir Khan's newly launched YouTube channel, Aamir Khan Talkies, released his audition tape for the role of SI Shyam Manohar in Laapataa Ladies. The footage reveals Aamir adopting fresh mannerisms and stepping away from his superstar image as he immerses himself in the character while chewing paan.

Ravi Kishan reacts to fans praising him

Nonetheless, audiences believed that the actor ultimately made a wise decision to withdraw after witnessing Ravi Kishan's audition for the same part. Numerous online commentators expressed that Ravi's performance was superior or, at the very least, more suitable for the rural character. On Thursday, a Facebook meme page posted images of both actors in their Shyam Manohar appearances, captioning it with, “Aamir Khan auditioned for Ravi Kishan's role in Laapataa Ladies but chose not to take it as Ravi Kishan's audition was more impressive!”

Several hours later, Ravi Kishan posted on his official Facebook account. Subsequently, he shared a video accompanied by the caption: "Aamir Khan auditioned for the role of Ravi Kishan in Laapataa Ladies but was not selected." In the comments section, fans lauded Ravi's performance, expressing their belief that he was superior in the role. One user remarked, "The most remarkable aspect is that Aamir Khan, known as Mr. Perfectionist, acknowledged that you were better." Another commenter stated, "You were the most fitting choice for the role and truly justified it."
