Filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga, known for directing the films Kabir Singh, featuring Shahid Kapoor, and Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor, recently discussed his creative decisions on the Game Changers podcast. During the conversation, he contemplated the possibility of including Shahid in a cameo role as Kabir Singh in Animal. Although he initially considered this crossover, Sandeep ultimately explained the reasons for abandoning the concept.

During the interview, he was presented with a scenario in which Ranvijay Singh, portrayed by Ranbir in Animal, is admitted to the hospital, while Shahid Kapoor's character, Kabir Singh, serves as the attending physician.

Sandeep responded, "I did contemplate this. I considered that I would proceed with it. After discussing it, everyone on set expressed, 'It's an excellent idea. You should pursue it. You could potentially earn an additional ₹100 crore.' While filming in Delhi, I conceived the notion of incorporating Kabir Singh as one of the lead doctors, who would be responsible for making critical decisions, given his aggressive demeanour... He must exhibit aggression to effectively manage a case of this nature."

Why Vanga dropped the idea of Shahid's cameo in Animal

Sandeep subsequently elaborated on his rationale for not pursuing the idea. “I realized that I did not want to engage in a superficial cameo. While we are establishing this reality zone, it should not resemble a mere presentation. To enhance the entertainment aspect, one might consider incorporating music and introducing Kabir Singh. I was initially torn, feeling 50-50 about it. For two days, I was entirely convinced, thinking, 'Let’s proceed with it.' However, I later changed my mind. This is a grave discussion; doctors are indicating that your heart, lungs, and kidneys are failing. If Kabir were to enter the conversation, it would trivialize the seriousness of the situation. The suffering involved... the dialogue would lose its authenticity if I introduced a cinematic character into such a serious context.”

About Animal, Kabir Singh

Animal (2023), an action drama, showcased performances by Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, and Triptii Dimri. The film faced criticism for its portrayal of misogyny and toxic masculinity.

Kabir Singh (2019) is a romantic drama that serves as a remake of the director's own Telugu film, Arjun Reddy (2017). The cast includes Kiara Advani, Arjan Bajwa, and Nikita Dutta, among others. The narrative follows Shahid, a doctor whose life spirals out of control following a breakup with his girlfriend.
