Varun Dhawan, Keerthy Suresh, and Wamiqa Gabbi star in the highly anticipated film Baby John, which premiered in theaters on December 25, 2024. Despite the excitement surrounding its release, the film, directed by Kalees, has struggled to draw audiences. Although it has garnered positive reviews, its performance at the box office has been disappointing, facing stiff competition from Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2 and Unni Mukundan's action film, Marco. In the midst of this box office rivalry, Keerthy Suresh, who made her Bollywood debut with Baby John, disclosed who had recommended her for the role.
Keerthy Suresh reveals how she came on board for Baby John
Produced by Atlee, Baby John serves as the official Hindi remake of Theri. In a recent interview with Galatta India, Keerthy Suresh revealed that her friend Samantha Ruth Prabhu had suggested her name for the film. Notably, Samantha portrayed the same character in the Tamil version. Keerthy expressed her gratitude, stating, "She probably had me in mind when this was happening; that's what Varun also told me. I can't be grateful enough for that. It's so sweet of her to say, 'Keerthy will be able to pull off this character.' Her performance in Theri is one of my favorites in Tamil. Honestly, I was very scared."
Keerthy Suresh on Samantha Ruth Prabhu's shoutout
During the interview, Keerthy reminisced about Samantha's support for the Baby John trailer on social media following its release. She noted, "I remember her posting a story on Instagram after watching the trailer of Baby John, saying, 'I wouldn't have shared this one with anyone else, but you.' It was so sweet and meant a lot to me."
For those unfamiliar, Keerthy and Samantha have previously collaborated, appearing together in Nag Ashwin's 2018 Telugu period drama Mahanati, for which Keerthy received a National Award for Best Actress.
In the meantime, prior to the release of Baby John, Samantha and Varun joined forces for the first time in Raj & DK's series, Citadel: Honey Bunny, which has been well-received by audiences. The series is currently available for streaming on Prime Video.
Keerthy is not only making her Bollywood debut but is also enjoying a fulfilling chapter in her life, having recently tied the knot with her longtime partner, Antony Thattil, in Goa.
