Shawn Mendes is finally addressing the whole love triangle drama with Sabrina Carpenter and Camila Cabello. In a sneak peek for Thursday's episode of John Mayer's SiriusXM show How's Life, the Canadian artist shares his thoughts on the complicated emotions that brought him back together with an ex. He admits that “unresolved feelings” were a big factor, even though he was seeing “someone else” at the time.
Mendes cleverly touches on the notorious love triangle.
In the sneak peek, Mendes mentioned, “Just two days before I was set to meet up with my ex, I admitted I had unresolved feelings.” Reflecting on it later, he thought he should have given her a heads-up “two weeks” in advance instead of just two days.
The host then asked Mendes, “Do you think there’s anything here where you could say, ‘Yeah, I messed that up?’” He replied that the main takeaway for him was, “Everyone experiences pain in life, and everyone ends up hurting someone else.”
Despite the discussion, the Stitches singer didn’t name anyone involved in the situation during the episode. It’s been reported that the love triangle involving Carpenter, Mendes, and Cabello started sometime in 2023, according to Page Six.
The love triangle among the musicians.
Cabello and Mendes kicked off their romance in 2019 and were together for three years before calling it quits in 2021. Fast forward to 2023, and there were whispers about them getting back together, especially after Mendes was linked to the Espresso singer.
Mendes and Carpenter were first spotted hanging out in Los Angeles just after Valentine's Day in 2023. But by April, things got interesting when Mendes was seen sharing a kiss with Cabello at Coachella. They also had a blast together at Taylor Swift's Eras Tour in May, which definitely turned some heads.
The Senorita pair seemed to have drifted apart again, while Carpenter hinted at the love triangle in her album's opening track, Taste, which talks about a guy juggling his ex and his current girlfriend. There's also speculation that Cabello’s song June Gloom is about Carpenter, and the My Oh My singer even lip-synced a part of it on TikTok, adding to the drama, according to Page Six.
Mendes and Cabello stirred up dating rumors once more when they were seen together at the Cpa America Festival in July.
