Imtiaz Ali's Jab Harry Met Sejal featured Anushka Sharma and Shah Rukh Khan in the main roles. Given the success of their first collaboration, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, expectations were sky-high for JHMS to perform even better. Unfortunately, the box office numbers for Jab Harry Met Sejal fell short of those expectations. So, what went wrong? Was it Shah Rukh Khan's star power that caused the film's box office to plummet? Or did he end up taking the reins? Interestingly, the director, Imtiaz Ali, has a different perspective on the matter.

Imtiaz Ali dismisses speculation about SRK leading JHMS.

In a recent chat with GQ, Imtiaz addressed the buzz about Shah Rukh Khan allegedly taking charge of the film and altering his vision. He quickly shot down those rumors, clarifying that he didn’t factor in Shah Rukh’s star power while crafting the script. The director mentioned, "Shah Rukh never forced his influence on the film. Sure, he’s a massive star with a huge following, and there are a lot of expectations, but I wasn’t writing to cater to that. His stardom wasn’t on my mind."

He also acknowledged that some adjustments were necessary in the script to ensure it resonated while keeping the core of the story intact. "You have to tick certain boxes in your script to make it work, as many as possible, without compromising the film's essence. With JHMS, we had to clarify what he was yearning for. It required a bit more detail, maybe some flashbacks, and a more classic structure to really come together," he explained.
