Dia Mirza slams harsh criticism for Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor
Dia Mirza criticizes the severe backlash against Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor. She emphasized that expressing opinions should not come at the expense of someone's mental well-being, stating, “I have never supported personal attacks, as they are profoundly disrespectful. While everyone is entitled to their views, these should not jeopardize another's mental health. I am particularly worried about the younger actors facing such harsh criticism. There seems to be a culture of ‘eating the privileged,’ which is unfair, as everyone has their own challenges to confront.”
Previously, fellow cast member Jugal Hansraj also came to the defense of Ibrahim and Khushi, labeling the "personal attacks" on social media as "silly and petty." In response to the film's criticism, Karan Johar remarked during the trailer launch of Akaal, “Kuch toh log kahenge, logon ka kaam hai kehna, chhodo bekar ki baaton mein kahin beet naa jaye raina” (People will always have something to say; it’s their job to talk. Let’s not waste our time on trivial matters).
Nadaaniyan marked the Bollywood debut of Ibrahim, the son of Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh, while it was Khushi's third film following The Archies and Loveyapa. However, both actors faced audience criticism regarding their acting and dialogue delivery. The film, which premiered on Netflix, also received negative reviews from critics. Directed by Shauna Gautam in her Bollywood debut, the film narrates the story of a privileged South Delhi schoolgirl who hires a fake boyfriend to retaliate against her family and peers.
