The series Kaafir, featuring Dia Mirza, was re-released as a film on ZEE5 on April 4, 2025. This production draws inspiration from the real-life story of Shehnaz Parveen and follows Kainaaz (played by Dia Mirza), a Kashmiri woman who inadvertently crosses the Line of Control and is subsequently imprisoned in India on false charges of being a militant. In a recent interview, Dia reflected on the distressing experience of filming a harrowing rape scene in Kaafir, revealing that she felt physically ill afterward.

During In an interview with CNN-News18, Dia Mirza discussed the challenges she faced while filming the rape scene in Kaafir, describing it as both physically and mentally taxing. 

"After we completed filming that scene, I was trembling. I recall feeling so overwhelmed that I ended up vomiting once we finished the entire sequence. The emotional and physical toll of those moments was immense. When you immerse your entire being into the reality of that experience, you truly feel it—every aspect of it," the actress remarked.

The actress mentioned that the project had been on hold for an extended time after its initial development. However, ZEE5 has now shown interest in transforming the show into a series, prompting writer Bhavani Iyer to revise the material.
