There have been recent allegations suggesting that Dia Mirza utilized AI-generated images and videos to endorse a student protest against deforestation in Kancha Gachibowli, Hyderabad. In response, the actor and environmental advocate has addressed these claims on social media, directly challenging Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and denying the accusations.

Dia Mirza claps back at Telangana over AI-generated content claims

On Sunday, Dia took to X, previously known as Twitter, to address the allegation that she shared AI-generated images and called on the Telangana government to confirm the facts prior to making such assertions.

"The Chief Minister of Telangana tweeted yesterday, making specific claims regarding the situation at Kancha Gachibowli," she stated in her post.

The actress further elaborated, "One of these claims was that I had utilized FAKE AI-generated images/videos to support the students' protest aimed at preserving biodiversity on the 400 acres of land the government intends to auction. This statement is completely untrue. I have not shared any images or videos that are AI-generated. The media and the Telangana government should ensure they verify their information before issuing such statements."

A number of students from the University of Hyderabad are demonstrating against the state government's intentions to develop a 400-acre land area adjacent to the university. The Telangana government's proposal to auction this environmentally sensitive land for urban infrastructure and an IT Park has sparked protests organized by the UoH Students’ Union. This issue is presently under consideration in both the Telangana High Court and the Supreme Court.

Since the announcement, numerous celebrities have expressed their concerns regarding the deforestation occurring in the region.

What were the claims by the Telangana government?

As reported by The Times of India, the Chief Minister of Telangana instructed officials on Saturday to file a court appeal on behalf of the state government. This appeal aims to obtain a directive for investigating AI-generated content depicting peacocks and deer, which has misled the public regarding the Kancha Gachibowli land dispute. The Chief Minister conducted a review of the situation and the related legal cases, engaging with Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, Ministers Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and D Anasuya (Seethakka), Chief Secretary A Santhi Kumari, DGP Jitender, among others, to understand the factors that led to the controversy surrounding the land issue.

During the discussion, officials informed the Chief Minister that numerous celebrities had been misled by AI-generated videos, prompting reactions on social media that escalated the situation to a near-national level. In response, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy directed the enhancement of the state's cyber crime department.
