At the beginning of his acting journey, Dheeren Ramkumar expressed his desire for audiences to recognize him as an individual, rather than merely as the grandson of the legendary matinee idol Dr. Rajkumar and the son of actor Ramkumar. However, prior to the release of his second film, he chose to adopt this familial legacy by incorporating Rajkumar into his name, thus becoming Dheeren R Rajkumar.

Shivarajkumar has announced his fourth home production, which will feature his nephew Dheeren.

Following the announcement of a film collaboration with KRG Studios, the actor reflects on his experiences during several temple visits, where various priests and swamijis advised that incorporating his grandfather's name would be beneficial. The film, titled Dheerra, led to the decision to adopt the name Dheeren R Rajkumar. He clarifies, "I have not abandoned my father's name in favor of adopting Rajkumar," in an interview with OTTplay.

However, for his upcoming project, which will officially mark his second film, the promotional poster features only his first name. He explains, "You will understand my choice to go solely by Dheeren for this film once you see it. Mama (Shivarajkumar, the film's producer) listened to the story and recommended that we refrain from using either name during the announcement. There is a significant element in the narrative that we have emphasized," he adds, stating, "This approach aligns with my belief that audiences should perceive me as Dheeren and nothing more."

Exclusive! I aspire for people to look past the Rajkumar-Ramkumar label and recognize me for who I truly am: Dheeren.

The as-yet-untitled film is being directed by Sandeep Sunkad, who rose to fame with his directorial debut Shakhahaari, which is widely considered one of the best Kannada films of 2024. It will likely go on floors in February 2025, after Shivarajkumar returns from the US, with the team aiming for a 2025 theatrical outing as well.

The film is a crime thriller and while the script is still being fine-tuned, Dheeren says that there will not be any build up or unnecessary elevation for him in the film. “There won’t even be mass dialogues or anything about my lineage. The movie will be content and character driven, much like what, say, a Rajkummar Rao or Ayushmann Khurrana, would do,” says the actor, adding this is also why Shivarajkumar came on board as producer. “He loved the subject and almost immediately said we ought to collaborate,” says Dheeren.
