Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna's Pushpa 2: The Rule became a significant success in 2024. Released on December 5 of the previous year, the film broke numerous box office records. While the music of Pushpa 2 was generally well-received, the song Kissik garnered a mixed response from viewers. Many audiences drew parallels between Sreeleela's dance performance and Samantha Ruth Prabhu's song Oo Antava from Pushpa: The Rise. In a recent interview, Devi Sri Prasad addressed these comparisons and responded to the criticism directed at the Hindi version of Kissik.

DSP on criticism for Kissik Hindi version

For the uninitiated, some people felt Samantha's Oo Antava was better compared to Sreeleela's Kissik. Speaking, DSP admitted that he was prepared for the comparisons between both songs.

We produce numerous romantic songs, each with its unique characteristics. However, when it comes to item songs, new releases are often compared to their predecessors, particularly in the context of franchise films. In this instance, I anticipated that Kissik would gain traction over time, while Oo Antava achieved immediate popularity," he stated. Devi Sri Prasad noted that Oo Antava focused on the male perspective, whereas Kissik highlighted the exploitation of a woman's image.

When questioned about the criticism regarding the Hindi version of the song, DSP remarked, "At times, we opt for phonetically similar words to enhance the song's appeal. Perhaps that was the case with Kissik. Our intention was to preserve the essence of the original lyrics."

The song featured Allu Arjun and Sreeleela, with the actress making a special appearance solely for this number. Conversely, Rashmika reprised her role as Srivalli in the film. Directed by Sukumar, Pushpa 2 emerged as a significant success at the box office, and plans for the third instalment, Pushpa 3: The Rampage, are underway.

When and where to watch Pushpa 2 on OTT?

There are reports circulating that "Pushpa 2: The Rule" is set to be released on Netflix in all major Indian languages. Media sources indicate that the film will make its digital debut on January 30, 2025.
