Music director Devi Sri Prasad, renowned for his blockbuster success with Pushpa 2 in 2024, has encountered criticism from certain audience segments regarding his contributions to the Tamil film Kanguva. Featuring Suriya in the lead role, Kanguva faced significant backlash and ridicule, not only for its narrative and direction but also for its overwhelming sound design.

In an exclusive interview with OTTplay, Devi Sri Prasad responded to the substantial criticism he received on social media. He noted that while constructive feedback is valuable, Kanguva also attracted a considerable amount of trolling. “I perceive social media as a one-way street, and we must continue with our work. We cannot afford to scrutinize every post on social media. Regardless of our efforts, there will always be individuals who express discontent,” the composer remarked.

Devi Sri Prasad further shared that despite the negative responses, he received commendations for the film's music. “For instance, the song Manippu garnered significant appreciation. I take pride in the Kanguva album. Many fans of Suriya celebrated the Thalaivane track. In fact, Suriya himself called me and spoke for over 30 minutes, expressing his appreciation,” he stated.

The composer added, “At times, a film that is perceived as below average can still achieve commercial success, and audiences may celebrate that triumph. We are aware of the reality, and just because a few individuals did not enjoy it, does not imply we should renounce our work. I possess the maturity to recognize the immaturity of others and to respect their perspectives.”

‘After Kanguva came on OTT, appreciations began to pour’

Kanguva can be streamed on Prime Video. The composer expressed his gratitude for the accolades received following the film's release on OTT platforms. “This is a project that we all relished working on. While every film has its strengths and weaknesses, the dedication put into Kanguva is evident, from the visuals to Suriya's performance. We take great pride in this film, even though it has not resonated with everyone.”

Kanguva is an action drama featuring Suriya in dual roles, alongside Bobby Deol, Disha Patani, and other notable actors.
