On July 26, the mystery musical drama, Devadoothan, in which Malayalam Superstar Mohanlal plays the lead, was re-released. In 4K format, the Sibi Malayil directorial is currently doing remarkably well at the box office. After receiving such positive reviews for its re-release, the film's producer, Siyad Koker, asserted to a media outlet that Devadoothan ought to win a national award. He continued by saying he would approach the government and look for legal assistance in this regard. Social media, on the other hand, speaks differently.

Producer receives backlash for National Award statement

In the wake of Siyad's 'exaggerated' claims for Devadoothan, online users are divided. Despite the film's widespread praise, many argued that lofty expectations should be placed for it. Some claimed that although the movie is good, it was never a material for a national award. The majority of them said that the film belongs solely in the category of Malayalam's underappreciated films.

Devadoothan performing well in theatres

After 24 years of release, the film, which was a huge commercial failure when it first debuted in theatres in 2001, is finally receiving the appreciation and success it deserves. Following its television premiere, Devadoothan became a cult classic. On the first day of its re-release, it reportedly made over Rs 50 lakh at the global box office. On Day 2 of its theatrical run, the Sibi Malayil directorial is expected to surpass the Rs. 1 crore milestone.

According to the latest news, on Day 2 of its re-release, the psychological thriller had over 20 additional shows in Kerala alone. Remarkably, Devadoothan was first re-released on fewer than 100 screens. After 24 years of its initial release, the mystery musical drama—which is well-known for the exceptional music score by Vidyasagar—might become a box office success, though, given the growing influx of viewers. Vidyasagar and Sibi Malayil both expressed gratitude to the crowd for their enthusiastic reception of the movie.
