Bangladesh is ablaze with anti-quota protests. The Supreme Court of Bangladesh talked about amending the quota system, but that did not douse the movement. There have been deadly clashes between the police and the protesters. There is a strike situation all over the country. 

The death toll is 161 so far, and many more persons are missing. Even after the Supreme Court gave its verdict, the protesters demanded a written announcement by the Sheikh Hasina government. 

Video of the police shooting unarmed students shook the world. India is also concerned about its neighbor. Now, the actor and MP Dev commented on the situation. He wrote on X, “One of the most Peace Loving and loving countries that I know is Bangladesh. My heart goes out to the people of Bangladesh. Just praying that peace prevails soon. Not only me whole of India is praying for Bangladesh’. 

CM Mamata Banerjee, from the July 21 stage, talked about giving refuge to Bangladeshis if needed. Within a few hours, Dev echoed his leader’s opinion. 

On Sunday, Mamata said, “I shall not talk about Bangladesh since it is a different country. The Indian government will give statements. But if a Helpless Bangladeshi knocks at our door, we will definitely help them. The UNO has a verdict that the neighboring area of a refugee must respect the issue. But do not get provoked regarding Bangladesh. Let us not get heated up over the issue. But we have sympathies for Bangladesh.” 

The Supreme Court of Bangladesh scaled back the quota system for government jobs on Sunday. The top court ordered 93% of the government jobs to be allocated on a merit-based system, keeping only 5% for the children of the independence war veterans. The students welcomed the verdict but did not stop their movement.
