Actor Deepika Padukone believes that numerous Indian films have been deserving of Oscars but have been unfairly overlooked in the past. On Sunday evening, she posted a new video on her Instagram, showcasing her preparations for the Louis Vuitton show in Paris. In the video, she discussed the Oscars and reminisced about the time she attended the ceremony when India won for the song "Naatu Naatu" from RRR.

In the video, Deepika shared that one particular win at this year's Oscars brought her a lot of joy. It was the Best Actor award, which went to Adrien Brody for his role in The Brutalist.

RRR's victory

Has there ever been an Oscar that felt like a personal victory for her? Deepika shared, “India has missed out on the Oscars numerous times. So many deserving films have been overlooked, whether it’s the movies themselves or the talent involved. I remember sitting in the audience when RRR was announced, and I got really emotional. Even though I had no direct connection to that film, it was a monumental moment for me. It felt incredibly personal.” RRR took home the Oscar for Best Original Song with "Naatu Naatu" in 2023.

The video featured snippets from Payal Kapadia's "All We Imagine As Light," Kiran Rao's "Laapataa Ladies," Rahi Anil Barve's "Tumbbad," and Ritesh Batra's "The Lunchbox." All of these films received high praise in recent years but didn’t get nominated for Oscars.

At the 97th Academy Awards, "Anora" was the standout winner, taking home 5 Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Actress for Mikey Madison. Sean Baker won for Best Director, Best Editing, and Best Original Screenplay.

Deepika was in Paris, where she attended the Louis Vuitton show at the Cour Carrée du Louvre, the main courtyard of the Louvre Palace. She made history as the first Indian to be appointed as a global ambassador for luxury fashion brands like Louis Vuitton and Cartier.
