Nimisha Sajayan, primarily known for her work in Malayalam cinema, recently appeared in the web series Dabba Cartel. Directed by Hitesh Bhatia, the show premiered on Netflix on February 28. In this series, the actress portrayed the character of Mala, which received a range of reviews from critics. During a promotional interview with Bollywood Hungama, Nimisha discussed the aspects that made her character, Mala, resonate with her, describing her as a 'layered' character.

Nimisha Sajayan engaged with the entertainment portal, revealing that her character in Dabba Cartel possesses multiple dimensions. The actress explained, "She is a single mother committed to nurturing her daughter. Her aspiration is for her daughter to realize the dreams that she was unable to pursue herself. In one scene, the daughter asks, 'Mama, hasn't the TV become a bit too large?' To which Mala responds, 'No, dear, we will make the house bigger.'"

The actress characterized Mala as a woman who is 'bold, strong, independent, and fearless.' Nimisha noted that her character also possesses certain 'insecurities' that she conceals by projecting an image of fearlessness. "I perceive Mala as a highly nuanced character. She embodies numerous layers. Moreover, she is a truly remarkable character," Sajayan remarked.

In her view, Mala exhibits a judgmental nature. However, the actress also observed that her character makes an effort to empathize with Varuna (portrayed by Jyotika) rather than simply passing judgment in a particular scene. Before her role as Mala in Dabba Cartel, Nimisha garnered acclaim for her performance in Poacher.
