Nimisha Sajayan has established her presence in the Hindi film industry through her role as Mala in Dabba Cartel, following her successful performances in Malayalam and Tamil cinema. In a recent exclusive interview with OTTplay, Nimisha discussed her experience working alongside Fahadh Faasil in her debut film, Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum, which earned FaFa the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor. Nimisha made an impressive debut alongside Fahadh Faasil and Suraj Venjaramoodu in the film Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum, directed by Dileesh Pothan. Although she is a Malayali, Nimisha was raised in Mumbai and had limited proficiency in Malayalam at that time.

Reflecting on her journey to landing her first film role, an enthusiastic Nimisha shared that the casting call for Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum was looking for women aged 25 to 30. “At the time of the audition, I was only 19. I resembled a typical Naadan Malayali, but when I began to speak, they questioned, ‘Aren't you a Malayali?’ Nevertheless, I still secured the part.”

Following her debut film, Nimisha once again teamed up with Suraj Venjaramoodu and Fahadh Faasil in notable projects such as the highly regarded The Great Indian Kitchen and Malik. When asked about the differences in her experiences working with these stars in her initial film compared to her subsequent roles, Nimisha remarked, “I still consider myself a newcomer. I experience significant nervousness and anxiety before each film. For me, every project feels like my first.”

“I am an enormous fan of Fahadh Faasil. In Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum, I was captivated by his performance, and the same was true for Malik. I continue to learn from Fahadh, so I cannot view it any other way. I remain a student in this field. Both Suraj and Fahadh have extensive experience in the industry. My experience working with them was consistent from my first film to the next. Perhaps it’s because they made me feel at ease and never treated me as a newcomer during my first project, which is why I did not perceive much of a difference when I collaborated with them again.”

In response to inquiries about her ability to succeed as an outsider, Nimisha emphasized that she has never experienced such feelings in the Malayalam film industry. "Malayalis are quite welcoming. Even now, individuals like Naslen and Mamitha, known for their roles in 'Premalu,' are outsiders. Yet, they are currently flourishing, receiving numerous promising projects, and the audience is very receptive. This is what sets this industry apart," she elaborated.

When asked about the directors she aspires to collaborate with in the future, Nimisha expressed her enthusiasm for several names. "I have a strong desire to work with Lijo Jose Pellissery, as he crafts a unique cinematic universe that resonates with me. I also wish to collaborate with Anurag Kashyap, a sentiment I shared with him during our meeting. Additionally, I admire Vikramaditya Motwane, Hansal Mehta, and Konkona Sen Sharma, among others. I am also interested in participating in independent films," Nimisha concluded.
