Three-time Emmy winner Cristóbal Tapia de Veer has announced that he won't be returning for season 4 of The White Lotus. He cited creative differences with the show's creator, Mike White, as the reason for his departure.

In a chat with The New York Times, Cristóbal revealed that their disagreements began during season 1 while they were working on the show's theme song. These differences only intensified during the production of the current season. His distinctive theme, 'ooh-loo-loo-loo,' contributed to the show's eerie vibe, which fans loved, but it was notably absent in season 3.

White was aiming for a more relaxed and sultry atmosphere in Season 3

For this season, the composer mentioned that White was looking for a more vibrant background track, something you might hear in Ibiza at a trendy club with a laid-back, sexy atmosphere.

“I shot a text to the producer suggesting that we should eventually include the longer version with the ooh-loo-loo-loos, because people would totally freak out when they realize it was going in that direction,” Tapia de Veer shared with the Times. “He thought it was a solid idea, but then Mike decided to cut it — he wasn’t on board with that,” the composer explained.

“A few months back, I let the team know that I wouldn’t be returning and that I was stepping away. I didn’t inform Mike for a bunch of reasons; I wanted to save it for the end for the element of surprise. I did tell the entire editorial team, the music editor, and the producer, but I didn’t expect them to spill the beans to him. Eventually, he found out,” he added.

The finale of The White Lotus Season 3 is coming this Sunday and will run for 90 minutes. The cast for this season features Parker Posey, Walton Goggins, Jason Isaacs, Michelle Monaghan, Leslie Bibb, Natasha Rothwell, Carrie Coon, Scott Glenn, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Aimee Lou Wood, Sarah Catherine Hook, Sam Nivola, and Lisa from Blackpink.
