Conversation with Jacqueline Fernandez: "The Key Lesson I've Gained is Resilience"

1 month ago | 5 Views

Before her entry into Bollywood in 2009, Jacqueline Fernandez began her career in the glamour industry as a model. She cherishes every opportunity to return to the runway. The actress acknowledges that she has discovered much about herself over the past 15 years. Additionally, she shared insights regarding her experiences in the spotlight for reasons beyond her professional work.

In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, Jacqueline openly discussed her return to the runway as a showstopper for designer Kanika Goyal at the Blenders Pride Fashion Tour in Chandigarh. She reflected on how fashion has helped her find her voice and shape her journey in the film industry.

On going back to the ramp

Earlier this month, Jacqueline graced the runway for designer Kanika Goyal during the Blenders Pride Fashion Tour held in Chandigarh. This event was organized in partnership with the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI).

“It is truly wonderful to return. It feels almost like a homecoming to walk the ramp. I recognize so many familiar faces. I feel incredibly honored to be a part of the Blenders Pride Fashion Tour, which has created numerous iconic moments, making this experience particularly special. It is remarkable to witness how this platform unites renowned designers like Kanika, style icons, and creative visionaries to craft an engaging fashion experience,” Jacqueline expressed regarding her runway experience.

The actress also mentioned her desire for a “preshow ritual, to be honest, but the day is so eventful that it becomes quite challenging to maintain one.” She added, “Moreover, since you participate in shows so frequently, the anxiety and nervousness tend to diminish over time.”

On her fashion journey

Jacqueline, originally from Sri Lanka, has experienced a notable evolution in her personal style over the years. Reflecting on her past, she remembers a time when she was more adventurous with her fashion selections. However, as time has progressed, her focus has shifted, and she now prioritizes comfort above all in her wardrobe choices.

"I used to be quite experimental with my personal style and fashion. Now, I find comfort in wearing something that is simple yet cozy. In the past, my approach was more about experimentation. Today, I have a clearer understanding of my own sense of style," she admits.

When asked whether fashion can serve as a means of self-expression and empowerment, Jacqueline responds emphatically, "Each of us possesses a unique personality, and I believe that expressing this through fashion creates something truly beautiful. The realization that no two individuals are alike allows one to showcase their individuality through their clothing, which I find to be exceptionally stylish."

On promoting positive body image

The saying, "with great power comes great responsibility," resonates deeply with Jacqueline, who asserts that this principle is particularly relevant for actors. As prominent figures in society, she believes that actors have a crucial obligation to advocate for positive body image and self-acceptance.

Jacqueline states, "I believe that by remaining true to themselves and being transparent about their bodies, they can make a significant impact. As public figures and role models, their honesty influences many individuals. Therefore, it is essential to promote greater honesty and authenticity." This sentiment comes from the actor's recent appearance in Fateh.

On her Bollywood journey

She made her entry into the Indian film industry with the 2009 movie Aladin, where she starred alongside actor Riteish Deshmukh. Although the film did not perform well at the box office, Jacqueline garnered attention for her performance. Subsequently, she appeared in several films, including Housefull 2, Murder 2, Kick, Brothers, Dishoom, Judwaa 2, and Mrs. Serial Killer.

When reflecting on the most significant lesson she has learned about herself and her abilities over the years, she states, “I believe resilience has always been a strong suit of mine. That has been my realization.”

Regarding her forthcoming projects, Jacqueline is currently involved in “two comedy films set to release this year, namely Housefull and Welcome.”

“In addition, I have also completed a web series that I filmed last year, which is scheduled for release this year. I am particularly excited about this project as it marks my debut in this format, focusing on dance and music. It will certainly bring something fresh to my portfolio this year,” she concludes.
