The 2025 Oscars will be hosted by Conan O’Brien and broadcast live from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. O’Brien made a memorable entrance at the 97th Academy Awards, emerging from a split-open back of Demi Moore in a comedic skit that parodied her film, The Substance.

O’Brien’s monologue showcased his characteristic sarcastic wit, yet it has sparked a divide among fans. He humorously remarked on the Oscars, Hollywood’s premier event, noting that it “begins at 4 in the afternoon.” Additionally, he made light of his appearance, quipping, “I know what you’re thinking: ‘Did Conan not have work done? Seriously. He looks his age.’” He also took a jab at Netflix regarding its price hikes. Following a lack of a standing ovation, O’Brien playfully requested the audience to take their seats.

Furthermore, O’Brien tackled the controversy surrounding Emilia Pérez star Karla Sofía Gascón’s inappropriate social media remarks. “Here’s a little fact for you: ‘Anora’ features the F-word 479 times,” O’Brien stated. “That’s three more than the record held by Karla Sofía Gascón’s publicist.”

O’Brien raised his voice to mimic Gascón’s representatives, exclaiming, “You tweeted WHAT?!” He then proceeded to dance around the stage.

Gascón seemed to be in on the humour, making a gesture of prayer with his hands. O’Brien quipped, “Karla, if you’re going to tweet about the Oscars, just remember, my name is Jimmy Kimmel.”

Additionally, O’Brien delivered several movie-related one-liners to amuse the audience. He remarked, “If you haven’t seen ‘Conclave,’ its premise is: A film about the Catholic Church, but don’t worry.”

At another moment, O’Brien stated, “Another film nominated for best picture is ‘I’m Still Here.’ It’s an incredible story about a woman who perseveres after her husband goes missing. When my wife watched it, she referred to it as the feel-good movie of the year.”

Conan O’Brien's monologue receives mixed reactions

O’Brien's monologue received mixed responses on social media. While some called him “the best host the Oscars have had in years” and some praised him for the Gascón jokes, others declared that he was “not funny.” Take a look:
