In the concluding episode of Saturday Night Live for 2024, the exchange of jokes between co-anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che during the Weekend Update segment left Scarlett Johansson in a state of astonishment. Colin has since disclosed that his wife, Scarlett, had prior knowledge of his intention to deliver some provocative jokes during the segment.

On Monday, Colin made an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, during which Jimmy commended the Christmas episode of Saturday Night Live, referring to it as the "best Weekend Update I've ever seen." He inquired whether Colin faced any repercussions from his wife, Scarlett, after delivering some controversial jokes about her on the program.

Colin disclosed that Scarlett was aware of one of the Weekend Update Joke Swap segments in advance. "I believe I am in trouble with many people. Scarlett was genuinely taken aback. I was surprised by everything as well, but they did give her a warning," he stated.

Colin elaborated that the writers had consulted Scarlett regarding her comfort with being part of certain jokes. "And she responded, 'Sure! You know, whatever. I'm open to it,'" he recounted to Fallon. However, she was unaware of the specific content of the jokes. "So Scarlett is backstage thinking, 'Oh, my God! That’s what it is?!'" he remarked. When Jimmy probed whether his reactions were authentic and not prearranged, Colin affirmed that he "can’t act that well."

The series of inappropriate jokes crafted by Michael for Colin Jost featured comments regarding Scarlett’s age and her postpartum physique. One such joke included, "Hey boo, you all know Scarlett just turned 40," the comedian remarked with laughter. "That means I might need to make my exit. Just kidding! We recently welcomed a child together, and you haven’t seen any photos of him yet because he’s quite dark-skinned."

Another joke stated, "Costco has taken their roast beef sandwich off the menu, but I’m not bothered. I’ve been enjoying roast beef every night since my wife had the baby… Just kidding, sweetheart! You know I don’t venture downtown! Wow! That’s quite something!" The humour left Scarlett visibly stunned and at a loss for words as she observed the performance from the studio.
