Chunky Panday is embracing a more sinister persona, revealing his darker side. Fortunately, this transformation is showcased on screen. He portrays a merciless don in the upcoming web series Griha Laxmi. In an interview with HT, the actor draws parallels between his character and Kevin Spacey's legendary Keyser Soze from The Usual Suspects, discusses the nuances of playing a villain, and explains his determination to pursue roles from filmmakers.

Chunky Panday discusses Griha Laxmi

Chunky acknowledges that Griha Laxmi appears to be a 'women-oriented' series. He remarks, "When I received the call informing me about the show titled Grihalaxmi, it struck me as something that Ekta Kapoor would produce under the Balaji (Telefilms) label. I inquired about the nature of the project and whether they truly wanted me involved. Would I be a suitable fit? After they provided a narration, I found it quite appealing."

In Griha Laxmi, Chunky portrays a character named Karim Kazi, who is a don. "He resembles Keyser Soze from The Usual Suspects," the actor elaborates, "He exists more as a rumour; you only hear about him. It’s hard to believe someone like that could actually exist. Interestingly, Hina's (Khan) character mirrors Walter White from Breaking Bad. The universe they have crafted is quite impressive."

Having predominantly taken on roles as romantic leads or comedic side characters throughout his four-decade career, portraying villains is a novel experience for Chunky. He confesses, "This role was particularly invigorating for me because I believe there is a bit of Shaitaan within all of us, though we often keep it subdued. I had never before played a full-fledged don on screen. The previous antagonists I portrayed were typically linked to a more significant villain, serving as fixers or the offspring of nefarious characters. This time, I am the primary antagonist."

Chunky Panday reflects on his journey in Bollywood

Chunky reflects on his extensive journey in the film industry, which commenced in the 1980s. He acknowledges the various challenges and triumphs he has encountered along the way. However, he asserts with conviction, "I harbour no regrets about my life. One should savour the journey; the enjoyment lies in this roller coaster of experiences."

The actor emphasizes his ability to adapt and reinvent himself over the years by actively pursuing filmmakers for compelling roles. He shares, "I consider myself fortunate to have secured these roles, but I have actively sought them out. I surrounded myself with individuals involved in such projects and pursued them once I learned they had characters I was eager to portray. I was never deterred by the prospect of appearing in just a couple of scenes in a film, as audiences typically remember only two or three memorable moments. Securing one of those moments ensures a lasting impression. It is essential for the audience to remember us, for ultimately, we will fade away, but our work will endure."

Griha Laxmi also features Hina Khan, Rahul Dev, and Dibyendu Bhattacharya. The series is set to premiere on Epic On on January 16.
