The tribute commenced with a montage of footage highlighting Payne's journey with One Direction, showcasing their early performances and ascent to global fame. His voice resonated throughout the venue as he reminisced about the band's remarkable achievements, stating, "We never expected any of this to happen... If you actually sit and think about it, we've done some amazing things."

As the visuals unfolded, Chris Martin of Coldplay graced the stage, gently beginning his rendition of “All My Love.” Fans took to social media to share their emotions, with many expressing sentiments such as, “Liam Payne’s tribute at the Grammys will stick with me forever."

Although his former bandmates, including Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik, were not present at the ceremony, they paid their respects in their own manner during Liam’s funeral in the U.K. in November.

“Not the tribute starting with Liam Payne and videos from his 1D days #GRAMMYs,” one user commented on social media. “I love you so much, Liam. We miss and love you dearly. I appreciate that they did this; sweet little memories of a boy with big dreams, but so many broken hearts around the world. I might have been sobbing, but I needed this, and the world did too,” another user wrote.

The 2025 Grammys also took the opportunity to honour other icons, such as Quincy B. Jones, featuring moving performances by Cynthia Erivo and Janelle Monáe.
