Years have passed since the release of Shankar Dada MBBS, the Telugu adaptation of Sanjay Dutt's successful film Munna Bhai MBBS, featuring Chiranjeevi. Nevertheless, an Instagram user named Vaishnavi Varma asserts that the movie played a crucial role in helping her identify her medical condition, a feat that even medical professionals were unable to achieve.

When Shankar Dada MBBS helped a woman with medical condition

Vaishnavi's Instagram caption states, “My beta cells abandoned me in 2018. Now, I’m a girl balancing insulin and idlis.” In a Reel she shared about her experience with Type 1 diabetes, she explains that her diagnosis came not from a medical professional or a clinic, but from the film Shankar Dada MBBS. She describes her symptoms: persistent thirst, extreme hunger, frequent urination, and significant weight loss, noting that every doctor she consulted overlooked her condition.

One day, while watching Shankar Dada MBBS, she recognized that the symptoms portrayed by Chiranjeevi resonated with her own. When she mentioned this to her parents, they initially dismissed her concerns. However, subsequent tests confirmed her fears of having diabetes. She concluded the Reel with the statement, “I have a medical background, but a movie diagnosed me.” Additionally, she captioned the video, “Not your usual diagnosis story.”

The reel has been shared by numerous accounts on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram. One viewer commented, “A woman learned she had type 1 diabetes after watching Shankar Dada MBBS, highlighting how films can unexpectedly provide knowledge and raise awareness.” Another added, “This exemplifies learning through cinema. Wishing her a smooth recovery. Lastly, Jai bholo Shankar Dada ki.”

However, some individuals expressed skepticism regarding the narrative, questioning why a basic test was not conducted. “What kind of doctor overlooks this? A simple blood test would clarify the symptoms,” one user on X remarked. Another Instagram user noted, “A sugar test would have sufficed, right?”

In a subsequent post, Vaishnavi explained, “Type 1 diabetes does not always present itself clearly. I had pre-existing issues with subtle signs, and it only became significantly symptomatic in the months leading up to my diagnosis in 2018. This is not a typical diagnosis, and it is certainly not about blaming the doctors. That shocking moment of diagnosis marked the start of my healing journey, but it is not where I reside in my life now.”

Shankar Dada MBBS, which featured Sonali Bendre, Srikanth, Girish Karnad, and Paresh Rawal, was released in 2004. The film narrates the story of a troublemaker who chooses to pursue a medical career after his parents face humiliation from an acquaintance due to his criminal lifestyle.
