Former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, passed away on December 26 while receiving treatment for age-related health issues. He was 92 years old. Many prominent figures from the South Indian film industry, including Chiranjeevi, Vijay, Mohanlal, and Nimma Upendra, expressed their condolences on social media.

‘A man of few words but immense impact’

Chiranjeevi shared a nostalgic photograph of himself with Manmohan Singh on X (formerly Twitter), expressing his profound sorrow at the loss of "one of the greatest statesmen" in Indian history. He remarked, “His visionary and transformative contributions as Finance Minister, followed by his highly effective two-term tenure as the 13th Prime Minister of India, will be forever remembered.”

The actor reminisced about his own experience serving as a Member of Parliament and Minister of State for Tourism during Singh's administration. “I will always treasure my interactions with him and the inspiration and wisdom he imparted. This is a significant loss for our nation. My heartfelt condolences to his family and the countless admirers he had. Rest in peace, Manmohan Ji! Om Shanti!” he concluded.

Keerthy Suresh reflected on the profound influence Manmohan Singh had on the nation, stating, “I am deeply shocked to learn of the passing of the visionary leader, Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji. A man of few words but tremendous impact, he transformed India’s economy with his wisdom and humility. His contributions to our nation's development will always be remembered. May his soul rest in peace.”

Vijay expressed his sorrow over the former Prime Minister's death, noting that Singh's contributions to the Indian economy were "unparalleled." He stated, “I am deeply saddened by the passing of former Prime Minister Dr. #ManmohanSingh. He led India with great wisdom and integrity, speaking little but achieving much. His unmatched contributions to the Indian economy and his noble services to the nation will always be cherished. My sincere condolences to his family, friends, followers, and loved ones during this challenging time.”

Kamal Haasan expressed his sorrow over the passing of Manmohan Singh, stating that it signifies the conclusion of a significant era in Indian politics. He remarked, "A man of quiet dignity, he transformed the nation through his insightful economic and social policies. Few individuals have had such a profound influence on the country's direction. His initiatives, both as Finance Minister and Prime Minister, empowered millions, reinforcing the foundation of Indian democracy and uplifting the most disadvantaged." Mammootty also paid tribute, stating, "Rest in peace, Dr. Manmohan Singh. Your wisdom, humility, and dedication to the nation will always be cherished." Mohanlal expressed his grief, saying, "I am deeply saddened by the loss of Dr. Manmohan Singh, a visionary leader and a true embodiment of humility and wisdom. His contributions to India will be eternally remembered. My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. May his soul find peace. Om Shanti."

Rishab Shetty shared a touching tribute, saying, "I am profoundly saddened to learn of the passing of Shri #ManmohanSingh Ji, a visionary leader and statesman who devoted his life to serving our nation. His contributions to India's growth and development will be remembered always. My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones."

Nimma Upendra expressed his sentiments in Kannada, stating, "Emotional tributes and final respects to Dr. Manmohan Singh, the greatest Prime Minister this country has ever known, a stalwart who tirelessly worked to strengthen the economy, a compassionate politician, and a distinguished economist who made invaluable contributions to Indian politics and economics."

Manmohan Singh dies

Dr. Manmohan Singh, recognized as the architect of India's economic reforms and a skilled consensus builder in the challenging realm of politics, passed away late Thursday at AIIMS in Delhi. He is survived by his spouse and three daughters. In honor of the former prime minister, the government has declared a seven-day period of State mourning. His final rites are scheduled for December 28.
